I'm so pleased that I was able to join the VE day parade in Stacksteads and litter pick along with my family.
This parade was an opportunity to express pride in our armed forces and to recommit to the values for which our Second World War generation fought so valiantly.
The litter pick was a great way to demonstrate the value of community as we cleaned up our paths and parks before the kids scattered poppy seeds in the peace garden. Well done to everyone involved. ... See MoreSee Less

An elderly person with dementia and asthma cannot order, or collect, or remember how to use their inhalers. As usual, this massive responsibility is offloaded onto the millions of unpaid/untrained carers in the person's family. These are changes that Labour should be leading the way with.
You’re not supporting us, you’re taking support away from us
In the run up to VE Day, our Labour government has announced VALOUR - a new UK-wide veteran support system, backed by £50m of funding, to ensure veterans have easier access to essential care and support.
Celebrations and commemorations of VE Day will be taking place throughout this week, and you can find out more at the new website www.ve-vjday80.gov.uk ... See MoreSee Less

Lancashire County Council has been run by the Conservatives for the last 8 years. Tomorrow we have the chance to change that.
On a national level, Labour is beginning to bring in change. We’ve seen:
🏥 Waiting lists falling for 6 months straight, with Labour’s changes bringing in an extra 3 million appointments 6 months earlier than planned.
👩🏻⚕️ 1,500 new GPs hired, smashing our target and beginning to put an end to the 8am scramble.
✈️ 24,000 people who had no right to be here deported, the highest number for 8 years.
👮🏽♂️A Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee to bring in a named, contactable Police Officer in every community, with 3,000 new Neighbourhood Officers starting in 12 months’ time.
🛣️ £1.6 billion for filling potholes and properly repairing our roads.
A Labour-led County Council will work tirelessly to make our services work for you. Most of all, a Labour County Council will bring in a simplified council system that cuts bureaucracy and gives us a Mayor, who can drive forward the change we need. ... See MoreSee Less

Reform all the way
Anyone who votes for more of this that we are currently getting from central government needs checking into a mental health unit. This government seriously needs a wake up call on how many of the public feel about how they are running OUR country. At the moment they are not representing the majority.

It was great to meet the Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, at Rossendale Health Centre, to show him what a valuable asset the Health Centre is to the community and speak with a group of patients.
This visit comes alongside the announcement that Labour is freezing prescription charges in England. This freeze, the first time in years, is just one part of Labour's strategy to tackle the cost of living crisis and ease the economic burden on working people. ... See MoreSee Less

Fantastic to see the PM alongside Andy MacNae! Things are so different in the constituency since Andy sent Berry packing last July! A local man speaking loudly about our needs! Thank you Keir for taking time to come to Rossendale!
Shame you didn't announce this visit. I am sure he would of got a great welcome from people of the area .🤬
What a surprise that it was a secret visit. Labour don’t stand a chance in the upcoming vote. Nothing but lies

Great to see innovative schemes like this being rolled out. I have been calling for improvements to Rossendale's flood defences for some time, so I very much welcome the approval of these plans to hold water in the upper catchment areas of the moors.

Leaky dams on farmland to prevent future flooding get go ahead

Three applications to install upstream flood defences in the Rossendale Valley have been approved by the council1 CommentComment on Facebook
Are you for real? Those posts across the stream are to prevent livestock from using the stream as an access route between fields. If that was a so called “dam to prevent flooding” then it’s not fit for purpose. All it would do is create a backup, flood the fields to some degree, then excess water would end up going around said “dam” and continue on its merry way downstream. 😂😂😂
Great to be part of Rossendale Scouts St George’s Day parade today. Congratulations to all those who received awards and it was inspiring to see so many young people Rossendale can be proud of. ... See MoreSee Less

My Week in Westminster
Before travelling to London on Tuesday, I welcomed Lisa Nandy, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, to the launch of the free breakfast club at Balladen Primary School. It was great to witness the beginning of this Labour policy being rolled out and see the impact on children and parents directly.
Later in the day, I had a call with Sussex Chief Constable Jo Shiner, the Police Chief's Council Lead for Road Safety. Unsafe roads, particularly around schools, are a massive issue across Rossendale and Darwen and I'm working in Parliament to bring about improvements to road safety across the board. It was great to speak to the Chief Constable about this and get her insights on what we can do to stop road accidents and save lives.
Following this up, I travelled down to London in order to contribute to a debate on road safety around schools, in which I was able to raise those insights and call for safer routes to and from schools. The video of this is available on my Facebook page.
I began the day on Wednesday with the weekly Mission Champions meeting, in which myself and other regional representatives meet with Ministers. During these meetings, we discuss how the delivery of each of the Government's missions - for example, bringing down NHS waiting lists - is going locally.
After attending Prime Minister's Questions, I met with representatives from the British Horse Society to discuss my work on improving access to nature. The representatives shared their hopes for how we can improve everyone's right to enjoy the countryside. With such a high proportion of horse riders in Rossendale and Darwen, they also expressed their desire to see roads made safer for horse riders and drivers alike.
I ended the day by going to a meeting of the All-Party Group on Patient Safety, in which we heard from the Care Quality Commission on the work they do to ensure patients are properly cared for. With my focus on maternity services and the care of new-born babies, I found this to be quite insightful.
On Thursday morning I joined a meeting of the Red Wall Group, made up of MPs representing Northern towns like ours. We're working together to secure Government investment in the North, specifically to improve the transport links.
Wrapping up a road safety heavy week, I held the inaugural meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Transport Safety, in which I was elected as its chair. With a large number of MPs in attendance, we agreed some clear priorities for our work going forward. I'm optimistic that through this collected group of MPs we can deliver the changes we need in Rossendale and Darwen.
