It was great to meet Janet King at the Antioch Christian Bookroom in Rawtenstall. It’s a lovely little shop selling books and fair trade goods. The shop is run by volunteers and all the proceeds go to local charities. I bought some very nice chocolate!

The play area just off Olive Lane in Darwen has been a topic of concern from local residents for some time, with antisocial behaviour and acts of vandalism being common problems.
But there's real potential here for it to become a space which the community can feel proud of. Somewhere safe for children to play, and for families to spend their time.
Recently I have been working with local Councillors Martin Mccaughran and others to bring together community groups and organisations to look at what can be done here. I've got funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner to support concept work and design work, and if we can produce a clear vision for the site, I will be putting it into the Darwen Pride in Place Programme.
The Pride in Place Programme is delivering £20 million over the next five years to Darwen to recreate our sense of pride in place and give communities things they can be proud of.
