Apprenticeships Speech in Westminster Hall

Today I spoke in Westminster Hall about apprenticeships. The lack of understanding about apprenticeships amongst students, parents and teachers presents a huge barrier to their access. This barrier prevents young people from even applying.

I asked what more we can do to improve awareness of the availability of apprenticeships.

My Week in Westminst

My Week in Westminster
This week I was joined in London by two of my hard working constituency staff members. It's important for my team to get to see the work we are achieving in London from close up.

Monday
I started the week meeting with Baroness Amos to hear her reflections on the national maternity investigation. This is such a vital issue, and I was able to share the feedback and experiences I’ve been gathering through the Baby Loss APPG. We must ensure that mothers and babies are safe, and that families are heard.

I also met with the Mining Remediation Authority to discuss the situation at Taylor's Green.

Later, I was proud to sponsor and speak at Project EDWARD (Every Day Without a Road Death). This initiative brings together police, charities, and campaigners to promote road safety and recognise outstanding contributions.

Tuesday
I went on a site visit to the Royal London Hospital to speak with their Air Ambulance service. We discussed their response to major incidents and terrorist attacks. It was hard-hitting, but really important to understand how these systems work. The insights were hard-hitting and will inform work I’m taking forward through the APPG.

I joined the Sport APPG to discuss plans for the year ahead and the importance of embedding sport into policy solutions for health and wellbeing.

I also met with Triple P, who provide parenting support nationwide. We spoke about their work in Lancashire and the need for sustainable funding for prevention-based policies.

Finally, I attended a meeting of the Red Wall Group to discuss the Fair Funding Review and what it could mean for Lancashire.

Wednesday
First of all, I had the winning Christmas card from my competition signed by the Speaker of the House. The winning entry will be revealed soon, so stay tuned for that.

I then joined the North West Productivity Forum to explore ways to boost growth and innovation in our region.

Later, I met with Minister Stephen Kinnock to discuss fees for NHS eye tests and support for local opticians.

I rounded off the day at a patient safety meeting on maternity care, continuing the vital conversation about improving outcomes for mothers and babies.

On Thursday, it was back home to Rossendale and Darwen to continue my work within the constituency.
