Welcoming the Devolution Package in Parliament

I spoke in Parliament to welcome today’s announcement of one of the largest ever single packages of mayoral devolution in England. Six new areas will join the Devolution Priority Programme – with mayors to be elected in May 2026.
I asked the Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner to join me in calling on Lancashire leaders to grasp this generational opportunity. I’m very grateful to her for joining me in expressing the hope that Lancashire will have a mayor in 2026 and pledging to work with local leaders to deliver this.

I was at Marl Pits this week to see the new outdoor netball courts open. It was clear how much this means to the players, the coaches and the families who have given so much to the Rossendale Rockets over the years. Facilities like these are what make a place feel like home. They give people somewhere to come together, to stay active and to take real pride in where they live.

I am glad that the Pride in Place funding we have been able to deliver for Rossendale is being put to such good use here. My thanks go to everyone across the community who has helped make this happen.
